Planning to walk around central London one day and go to Windsor another.
I’d stay nearer to Heathrow then get up early to take a taxi to Windsor in the morning. You’ll have a couple of hours to get a nice breakfast/brunch somewhere and see the castle (although you won’t have time to actually go in). It’s also a really nice town to wander round and get a “feel” for what the UK has to offer.

That’s all you have time for. Reply: I'm not sure this is feasible. It's 30 mins or so to Windsor from Heathrow. Which means they'd need to leave Windors at 11am to make sure they're in time to check in 2 hours ahead of the flight. Its too tight and too risky with traffic, finding a cab etc.
