Borough Market

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Borough Market is a historic and highly popular food destination in London, widely regarded as a 'Mecca for foodies' due to its vast variety of food and drink stalls. While it is praised for its quality and its convenient location near landmarks like Tower Bridge and the Tate Modern, it is frequently described as extremely overcrowded and 'chaotic.' Visitors should expect a high-energy, tourist-heavy environment where most food is consumed while standing.
Pros
- Huge variety of high-quality food and drink options
- Beautiful historic building and setting
- Central location near other major tourist attractions
- Great atmosphere for photography and food exploration
Cons
- Extremely crowded, often described as 'shoulder to shoulder' or a 'zoo'
- Severely limited seating; 90% of food is 'to go' and eaten standing up
- Can be very expensive
- Long queues at individual stalls can make group dining difficult
Caveats
- Internet-famous 'must-get' items (like chocolate-covered strawberries) may not live up to the hype
- Can be stressful for families with picky eaters who may need to queue at multiple different stalls
- Often described as very touristy, similar to Camden Market
Best for
- Food enthusiasts looking for variety
- Tourists already visiting the Southbank or Tower Bridge area
- Photography and soaking in a historic London atmosphere
Avoid if
- You are claustrophobic or strongly dislike dense crowds
- You are looking for a relaxed, sit-down lunch experience
- You get sick easily or prefer a more sterile environment

If you like markets and food, Borough Market or Camden Market.
Lunch at Borough Market
But honestly if you hit up the Borough Market, you're likely to have a food experience most people in North America don't get to have.
Completely different vibes/experiences and the food at the Borough Market makes it worth visiting on its own.
With two picky kids I think Borough Market for lunch could end up quite stressful (it's all market stalls and the like, so you might queue for one kid to get something then need to queue somewhere else for the other kid, etc), especially if you're there on a busy day.
We enjoyed Borough Market but it’s crowded and a bit of a zoo sometimes.
Borough Market is *not* budget friendly. It's also great for ingredients, but for *food*, with a few exceptions, it's some combination of overpriced, overhyped, and bad value for money.
Borough Market is still worth a visit
You land in Camden Lock Market, and the market and nearby Camden stores are really fun, but my favorite market was Borough.
I find Borough Market overcrowded and overpriced and it’s really not worth your time going out of your way to go there.
