For the British museum, I wandered off midday to get a bite to eat and just made another reservation on the walk back. Then I went straight past the line and in lol. Can't guarantee you'll be able to do the same thing, but... I was there last September, and honestly it seemed more crowded first thing in the morning compared to when I wandered back inside later in the day.
The British Museum is free and a good one to visit.

As for the other day in London, do the museums or art galleries, if that's of interest - the Tate Modern, the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert etc.
The British Museum was a must as my cousin had never been. Pros: beautiful building, amazing artefacts, wonderful gift shop. ... Cons: July is not a great month to visit ... Every single room was super crowded. It was stuffy too; I would recommend bringing a portable fan if you can. Also, the sandwiches on offer are edible but not particularly good.
