Wells Fargo Active Cash Card
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Wells Fargo Active Cash Card is widely regarded as a top-tier 'catch-all' credit card, primarily for its flat 2% cash back on all purchases. Users frequently compare it favorably to the Citi Double Cash and Fidelity Rewards, noting that it often includes a sign-up bonus and cell phone protection, which are not always standard on competing 2% cards. While highly praised for its simple rewards structure and Visa network acceptance, it is criticized for its digital interface and lack of travel-friendly features.
Pros
- Flat 2% cash back on all purchases with no categories to track
- Includes cell phone protection (up to $600 with a $25 deductible)
- Typically offers a sign-up bonus (e.g., $200 for $500 spend)
- No annual fee
- Rewards can be transferred to Wells Fargo Autograph cards for potentially higher value
- Visa network provides high merchant acceptance
Cons
- Charges a Foreign Transaction Fee (FTF)
- Mobile app and desktop banking interface are frequently described as poor
- Pending transactions reportedly disappear from logs temporarily around 5pm on the date of use
- Secondary car rental insurance rather than primary
Caveats
- The card is not suitable for international use due to the Foreign Transaction Fee.
- Some users find the Wells Fargo banking platform less intuitive than competitors like Chase or Amex.
Best for
- Users seeking a simple, high-rate catch-all card for domestic spending
- People looking for free cell phone insurance
- Cardholders who want to pair it with the Wells Fargo Autograph ecosystem
Avoid if
- You frequently travel or make purchases outside the United States
- You prioritize a high-quality, modern mobile banking app experience
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~384 days), and while credit card terms are relatively stable, users should verify current sign-up bonuses and APR offers.

The three most popular choices for 2% cards are the Wells Fargo Active Cash, Citi Double Cash, and Fidelity Rewards.
Admittedly, the Active Cash likely has a better SUB so that would need to be considered…
1. Wells Fargo Active Cash 2% catch-all
Wells Fargo Active Cash is a very good option. It does have a FTF, but it also has nice benefits like cell phone insurance, emergency roadside assistance, and secondary car rental insurance.
The Wells Fargo Active Cash offers $600 of phone protection against damage or theft, subject to a $25 deductible - and while it earns straight cash back, its rewards can be transferred over to an Autograph or Autograph Journey card for transfer partner access.
As for a 2% card, Wells Fargo Active Cash or some other Visa based card is what I normally reccomend.
Then just grab a catchall, like the amex blue business cash or wells Fargo active cash.
I think people here generally agree that there’s better choices than the Apple Card for a 2% catch-all. [...] I think the Wells Fargo Active Cash, Citi Double Cash, and Fidelity Rewards are all better cards across the board.
I’ve looked into Wells Fargo Active Cash, Fidelity Rewards, and Citi Double Cash
I was thinking of maybe using that plus the Wells Fargo active cash
