Tobira: Gateway to Advanced Japanese

Pros

• I just started using quartet 1 with a teacher but I'm thinking of supplementing with tobira on my own since I like textbook learning
• Im sure tobira, minna no nihongo, japanese for busy people, etc all have their own topics of transitive vs intransitive that they introduce with corresponding textbook and workbook practice
• I took JP3 (first half of Genki II) and read Tobira on my own. ... Finished Tobira with one week left on the year.
• In that course, we finished the Genki series, the Tobira intermediate book, and the last 3 semesters, we focused on reading short articles and watching clips to discuss as a class
• I didn't touch immersion until I had completed Heisigs RTK, Genki 1+2 and part of Tobira, and an anki 2k vocab deck

Cons

• I have finished genki and Tobira and I don’t remember seeing it before.
• This is after I tried and gave up on textbooks like ShinKanzen Master, Tobira and Manabou.
• Tobira is pretty dense so splitting it up is nice, I think. Tobira is also pretty old and it shows, like I slightly cringe every time I see 喫茶店 in Tobira, so a rewrite is definitely only a good thing. Some of the readings were also a bit...
• I would like to go over quartet 1 or the first half of tobira (or their new book) together from the beginning.
• I saw that tobira was being split into 2 intermediate textbooks (I guess to be like quartet) and that the first would come out july 2025 and then the second summer 2026. Well, it's july 30th and I can't find it. Wondering if the date got...
