Genki

Pros

• For that purpose, all beginner textbooks (MNN, Genki, etc) will do fine. Just pick one and stop worrying about what is best.
• Since you know Japanese maybe you’d like the 出来る韓国語 series. It reminds me of Genki and the workbook is a bit richer.
• For the Japanese Genki material, I am making a deck for each chapter, and making these sub decks of the main Genki deck.
• His genki 1 and 2 explanation are top tier tho
• If you want to stick with it, I'd see if you can integrate it with Anki and also start with a grammar guide alongside that (e.g., Tae Kim or Genki).

Cons

• Consider skipping the exercises as well. There are better ways to spend time with a textbook, honestly.
• We just went through Genki in a very methodical "high school course" way, which felt very unfun at my self-taught 30 yr old pace.
• Classroom oriented textbooks like Genki don't really cover all that much for daily communications like unrestricted conversations and news broadcasts.
• I have finished genki and Tobira and I don’t remember seeing it before.
• What I do after Genki I and II is immerse and mine words from anime
