Capital One Savor

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Capital One Savor is highly regarded as a premier no-annual-fee card for dining, groceries, and entertainment. It is frequently recommended as a simpler, cost-effective alternative to the Amex Gold, particularly for users who prefer cash back or want to avoid high annual fees. Its value is significantly enhanced when paired with a Venture X card, allowing users to convert cash back into travel miles.
Pros
- 3% cash back on dining, groceries, and entertainment (including movie theaters).
- No annual fee, making it easy to break even compared to premium cards.
- No foreign transaction fees, suitable for international travel.
- Seamless integration with the Venture X to convert cash back into miles.
- Includes niche benefits like price drop protection.
Cons
- Does not offer competitive rewards for gas station purchases.
- Capital One's approval algorithm can be restrictive for 'experienced' users with many existing cards.
Caveats
- Approval can be difficult if you already have a large number of cards from other issuers.
- Users often debate whether their spending volume justifies a premium card over this free version; math depends on individual food budgets.
Best for
- Budget-conscious foodies and moviegoers.
- International travelers looking for a no-AF dining card.
- Venture X cardholders looking to maximize their rewards ecosystem.
Avoid if
- A significant portion of your monthly spend is on gasoline.
- You have a very high number of open credit card accounts, which may lead to a denial.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~394 days), so while credit card terms are generally stable, users should verify current rewards rates.

I would check to see if you are pre approved for a savor or a chase freedom card
These are my favorite cards: Chase Freedom Unlimited, Discover IT Cash Back, AMEX BCE, Capital One Savor, and the Chase Freedom Flex
For the very niche scenarios where price drop protection could be relevant, I use the Savor.
Savor is definitely underrated for the food categories
If the answer is the former (free flights and many more cheap flights) then Capital One Savor is an excellent choice.
The Capital One Savor is the go to comparison for the Gold as it is a very similar but free card. I don’t believe most people spend enough on food to justify the Gold over the Savor but you have to do the math for your spending.
Parent context: I made my wife an authorized user for my Robinhood gold card, bc she couldn't for the life of her figure out when to use VX and when to use Savor. Reply: I just pray that she doesn't go off to start buying gold bars with the Robinhood gold card any time soon.
Savor is also a major spend driver
Grocery spend is the biggest glaring weakenss. AAA Daily Advantage or the Capital One Savor are the obvious options for no annual fee options for Cash back.
Parent context: I've been thinking about that one. Wish movie theaters were included is my biggest turn off. My wife and I visit the movies often. Reply: The capital savor card is 3 x on movie theaters
