AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Bilt Mastercard is a unique financial product widely recognized on Reddit as the only credit card that allows users to earn rewards on rent payments without incurring transaction fees. It achieves this by providing a routing and account number to bypass standard credit card fees. While it is highly praised for its lack of an annual fee and valuable transfer partners like Hyatt, it is frequently criticized for persistent security issues and recent reductions in reward caps.

Pros

  • Earns points on rent payments without fees using a specialized routing/account number system.
  • No annual fee.
  • High-value travel transfer partners, including Hyatt and various airlines at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Rent Day bonuses offer double points on non-rent spending on the first of each month.
  • Can send physical checks to landlords who do not accept electronic payments.

Cons

  • Frequent reports of fraudulent charges and security vulnerabilities requiring card replacements.
  • Strict requirement of at least 5 transactions per billing cycle to earn any points.
  • Recent 'nerfs' or reductions to earning rates and Rent Day point caps.
  • Point value is significantly lower if not used through specific travel transfer partners.

Caveats

  • While fraud is a recurring theme, many users note that Wells Fargo (the issuer) typically resolves these disputes effectively.
  • The 5-transaction minimum is a hard requirement; missing it means zero points are earned for that month, including rent.

Best for

  • Renters looking to maximize rewards on their largest monthly expense.
  • Travelers who frequently use Hyatt or specific airline partners.
  • Users seeking a no-annual-fee travel rewards card.

Avoid if

  • You have a low tolerance for potential fraud and the administrative hassle of disputing charges.
  • You cannot reliably make 5 transactions per month on the card.
  • You prefer straightforward cash back over managing travel transfer partners.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~436 days) and confidence should be lower for fast-changing products like credit cards where terms and security protocols frequently evolve.

No other card is better for rent. This card will get you a free 20k in points you can transfer to Hyatt for example, at 1:1 ratio, just like Chase.

I’ve had it for a year and have never had any of the fraud issues people mention here. 🤷‍♀️

The rent day bonus is pretty good. I schedule all my monthly payments on the 1st and those alone are enough for the 4 non-rent transactions

It's crazy though, because as someone pointed out before, Bilt might be the only card where people actively look for ways to spend LESS on it

It seems my last hope is the new high AF BILT credit card but I am guessing they want to compete with CSR and AMEX Plat(not VX) and those coupons dont work worldwide or easily

Just get a Bilt credit card. They’ve solved for this exact use case. They provide you a checking account and routing number that’s linked to your card to pay your rent while still earning miles. Lots of travel transfer partners. No annual fee either.
