AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite (PRE) is highly regarded as a premier 'catch-all' credit card, especially for users within the Bank of America ecosystem. It is frequently cited as a superior alternative to the Amex Platinum for those who prefer high flat-rate cashback and less 'couponing.' The card's value proposition is heavily dependent on having Platinum Honors status, which boosts the base earn rate to 2.625% on all purchases and 3.5% on travel and dining.

Pros

  • High catch-all rate of 2.625% on all spending for Platinum Honors members.
  • Priority Pass membership includes restaurant access, which is increasingly rare among premium cards.
  • Flexible credits ($300 airline incidental and $150 lifestyle) can reduce the effective annual fee to approximately $100.
  • Points are worth 1.25 cents each when redeemed for airfare through the Bank of America travel portal.
  • Includes Visa Infinite benefits such as primary rental car insurance and travel protections.

Cons

  • High $550 annual fee can be difficult to justify without organic use of all credits.
  • Lacks transferable points, making it less attractive for 'award hackers' compared to Chase or Amex.
  • Maximum value is locked behind the $100,000 asset requirement for Platinum Honors status.

Caveats

  • The $300 airline incidental credit is often actualized by users through specific methods like United TravelBank.
  • The 20% discount (1.25x value) on flights is only available when booking through the BofA portal.
  • The card's complexity regarding the Preferred Rewards tiers can be confusing for new users.

Best for

  • Bank of America Platinum Honors members ($100k+ in assets).
  • High spenders looking for a simple, high-value 'one-card' setup.
  • Travelers who frequent airports with Priority Pass restaurants.

Avoid if

  • You do not have or plan to have Platinum Honors status with Bank of America.
  • You prefer transferring points to airline and hotel partners for maximum redemption value.
  • You are unwilling to use a travel portal to maximize point value.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~390 days), and while the card's core features are stable, users should verify if specific Priority Pass or credit terms have updated recently.

Hate to say it but the PRE will do most things you want. I'd just take out the BoA PRE and PC the PR

Other options would be the BoA PRE getting me about 3.2% which has flexibility on airline but if you are flying Delta spend on the Gold allows you to book through Delta and avoid a portal.

BofA PRE is definitely slept on but that platinum category bonus structure can be confusing as hell for new users

BofA PRE > AMEX Plat > All ... I still prefer BofA PRE because it gives a bunch more flexibility with alot less couponing.

BoA PRE if your home airport or main destination airports have PP Restaurants.

You're better off finding a high cashback card to book direct (or BoA PRE with 1.25x bonus to flight redemption via portal).

Priority pass restaurant access is what makes it a no brainer. ... Well worth the effective annual fee of $100 if you can use all of the credits.

BofA PRE, two BofA CCRs, Amazon Prime Visa, and US Bank Cash+ for utilities. I get a minimum of 2.625% cash back on every dollar, and 5%+ on a good bit of spend.

It is true that I have made a lot of inquiries lately (Wells Fargo Signature denied 2025-10, BofA PRE denied 2025-10, Hilton Surpass approved 2025-10, Strata Elite approved 2025-08...)

Parent context: BoA PRE with plat honors (big asterisk of course) ... It's just super easy and zero thinking about it.
