Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The 5080 FE is highly regarded for its clean aesthetic and strong 4K gaming performance, often positioned as a premium alternative to partner cards when found at MSRP. While users praise its build quality and suitability for small form factor builds, the card is notoriously difficult to acquire, leading many to rely on stock alerts. Some technical friction exists, specifically regarding coil whine and physical fitment issues in certain cases.

Pros

  • Clean, minimalist aesthetic preferred over many partner cards
  • Excellent performance for 4K OLED gaming setups
  • Compact dimensions make it a popular choice for MFFPC (small form factor) builds
  • Strong long-term value when purchased at the $999 MSRP

Cons

  • Extremely limited availability requiring stock tracking tools
  • Reports of audible coil whine, though some users mitigated this via undervolting
  • Potential physical alignment issues with the backplate or port access in specific cases
  • High resale value makes secondary market trades risky or suspicious

Caveats

  • Initial boot may experience delays in displaying a signal over DisplayPort
  • Coil whine may be inconsistent; some users found that reseating the card resolved the issue
  • Physical compatibility with specific case brackets (like the Z20) can block cable ports

Best for

  • 4K gaming enthusiasts
  • Small form factor (MATX/MFFPC) builders
  • Users who prefer the official NVIDIA industrial design

Avoid if

  • You are unwilling to monitor stock alerts or Discord drops for a purchase
  • You are highly sensitive to GPU coil whine
  • You prioritize the performance-to-value ratio of mid-range cards like the 9070 XT

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~263 days), which may affect the current accuracy of availability and pricing for this hardware.

Really, really good deal. I bought my wife a pre-built 9800x3d and 5080 build for $2600. You are getting high quality parts for $300 less than that. I'd pull the trigger.

imagine, for example, getting a 5080 FE when 5070 TI's (non-FE) are practically going for the same price.

Unless he is asking for extra cash ontop your 9070xt, I would not trust that the 5080 is running optimally/something happened to it

My 5080FE had it when I got it, then a few days later my second NVMe arrived in the mail and I had to remove and reseat the GPU to install the NVMe, and when I put it back together the whine was gone altogether.

Most of them don't even have a photo of the physical gpu they just smashed some 3d model on there or just took a photo of the package.

Even if they just wanted the card for aesthetics, they could easily sell a 5080 FE for significantly more than a 9070XT is worth, buy a *new* 9070XT, amd pocket the difference.

I waited 2 months but I eventually was able to snag a 5080 FE for $999 three weeks ago.
