Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The 9070 XT is generally praised as a high-value GPU that offers a superior price-to-performance ratio compared to its immediate competitors, particularly for raw FPS and VRAM capacity. However, user sentiment is sharply divided; while many report a 'great experience,' a significant number of users highlight persistent driver instability, software conflicts, and disappointing performance in specific titles or professional applications.

Pros

  • Excellent cost-to-benefit ratio, frequently cited as a better value than the 5070 Ti for raw performance.
  • Higher VRAM capacity (16GB) compared to similarly priced alternatives.
  • Strong performance in demanding modern titles like Monster Hunter Wilds.
  • Effective undervolting potential to maintain performance while managing power draw.

Cons

  • Frequent reports of driver instability, including black screens, resolution resets, and software version mismatches.
  • Inconsistent performance in certain games, with some users reporting lower FPS than older hardware in titles like Fallout.
  • High power connectivity requirements, with some models requiring three 8-pin PCIe connectors.
  • Reported stability issues in professional software like Vegas Pro 22 compared to Nvidia counterparts.

Caveats

  • The non-XT variant (RX 9070) is noted to be only 10-12% slower while typically costing $100 less.
  • Hardware quality may vary; at least one user reported a recurring clicking noise during fan startup.
  • Driver issues may require frequent reinstallation of the AMD Adrenalin software.

Best for

  • Gamers seeking the best 'price per FPS' and high VRAM for modern gaming.
  • Users comfortable with undervolting and troubleshooting software/driver settings.
  • High-resolution gaming builds with a budget around $1,600–$2,000.

Avoid if

  • You require a stable environment for professional video editing.
  • You have a low-wattage power supply (e.g., 500W) or limited PCIe power cables.
  • You prefer the feature set and driver maturity typically associated with Nvidia cards.

9070XT is a better value, 5070Ti is a better, more feature rich and more versatile GPU overall. See which matters to you more and how much are you willing to pay...

I bought myself a new GPU, a 9070 XT. Went to swap it out and noticed it had 3x 8 PCIe connection ports. I then realised my PSU (Intergrator 500W) only has 'PCIe 6+2 PIN x2, which appear to be connected 'together'.

Very few games are CPU bound especially at higher resolutions. You're probably fine though that CPU is getting long in the tooth. DOTA runs on a potato also.
