Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • My UNAS Pro is currently connected via SFP at 10G link speed to a Pro Max 24 Switch. ... The UNAS Pro will have 6 x 18TB drives in RAID 5 (“Normal Redundancy” mode, in Ubiquiti terms) plus one hot spare.
  • My Ubiquiti Home : UDM Pro, USW Aggregation, USW Enterprise 24 PoE, UNAS Pro and around 10 other USW Flex/Flex XG/Flex mini switches distributed in my home + U6 LR and some Nano HD wifi APs
  • Else the simplicity and quality of my unas has been excellent.
  • Parent context: Have you ever had any issues with SMB transfers stalling and the UNAS UI going offline until it is manually restarted from the touch screen? I'm having this weird behavior with a brand new UNAS Pro (original 7 disk one) R...
  • Similar setup, I have the unas pro with 4 x 20tb exos drives. with a hp mini pc 10th gen running emby in a docker container and unas mounted via nfs. ... works perfectly fine.

Cons

  • As to the 8-bay one, seems a bit redundant unless the original UNAS Pro is getting discontinued and being replaced by this.
  • The cpu in the machine does hold back the full potential slightly on this model, but realistically, for the price, it’s still more than adequate.
  • - Power cable sticks about an inch out the back. I had to bend the cable more than I would like to get it to fit. Ensure your rack has ample depth. - You can target RAID 10 with two drives. I assume you can add two later and not have to...
  • Will I be able to record video from the cameras on the UNAS pro / Dream Machine, or will I need a network video recorder?
  • Under speced. Stick with a real nas that you can run truenas on

- Power cable sticks about an inch out the back. I had to bend the cable more than I would like to get it to fit. Ensure your rack has ample depth. - You can target RAID 10 with two drives. I assume you can add two later and not have to reformat. I couldn’t find this info anywhere and was hoping would be possible. - Had to update several times. Make sure to do this before setting your drives up because it requires a format when upgrading to new raid group. - SMB on a Mac is very slow. Not unique to UNAS Pro. Still researching on how to improve this. - Each user gets a “Personal-Drive”, but you have to manually create it. macOS will erroneously think it’s available.

UNAS-Pro with 7 x WD 22TB drives in Raid6. All my 4k discs ripped to mkv stored on the UNAS, exposed with NFS. ... I have not had any issues at all playing movies from it.
