TCL C7K
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The TCL C7K is widely regarded as a high-value Mini-LED television that offers a 'wow factor' often compared to OLED panels. Users frequently praise its exceptional brightness, deep black levels, and strong price-to-performance ratio, making it a popular choice for those seeking a premium experience on a budget. However, while it excels in general viewing, it faces some criticism regarding software polish and specific motion artifacts during gaming.
Pros
- Exceptional value for the price, often described as the 'best bang for buck'
- High peak brightness (up to 3000 nits mentioned) suitable for bright rooms
- Deep black levels and contrast provided by the Crystaglow HVA panel
- Strong upscaling performance and broad HDR format support (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, IMAX Enhanced)
- Impressive built-in sound system for its class
Cons
- Reports of white ghosting or smearing in some gaming scenarios
- Software algorithms can cause lifted blacks or gamma issues in HDR content, particularly in letterbox bars
- Noticeable heat generation from the Mini-LED backlight
- Potential out-of-the-box color accuracy issues, such as a greenish tint on whites
- Oversaturated colors and contrast in certain modes
Caveats
- VRR may need to be disabled in some PC gaming setups to resolve smearing issues
- Performance is highly dependent on firmware versions, with users frequently discussing updates like v643 and v655
- Manual calibration of white balance may be necessary to correct tinting
Best for
- Bright living rooms where high peak brightness is required
- Budget-conscious buyers looking for a cinema-like experience
- Users wanting a large-format screen (up to 85 inches) without the OLED price tag
Avoid if
- You are a gamer highly sensitive to panel smearing or ghosting
- You prioritize the polished HDR processing and software stability of premium brands like Sony or LG
- You are looking for a TV that requires zero out-of-the-box calibration

Knowing how the C7K looks from behind and how hot do those MiniLEDs get, it's perfectly normal.
I think it's the best budget TV in a while. Probably not as polished as a Samsung, LG and especially Sony and Panasonic, but all those have slowly shifted to the premium segment, offering a range of more budget TVs that are far worse than the same model ranges from a few years before and definitely worse than the TCLs.
