Sony SA-SW9

The sw9 is a huge improvement over the sw5 as well, as I’ve had it for many years and 2 previous Sony systems.

Of all the soundbar subs, I think the best one right now is the SW9 from Sony. But that is expensive.

Simce upgrading to the new sw9, it’s just that much better. The Quads without a sub wouldn’t work just like most other systems if you took the sub away. Best system I’ve ever heard and owned and by a lot.

I’d recommend the SW9 first, as the surrounds would be great, but without a proper subwoofer, it’s not going to sound anywhere close to what it will, with the sub. Sub first for sure, imho.

I've heard the SW9 is a big step forward.

I have the Quads and bought a sw9 last month-big difference over the sw5!

I bought a Sony Quad with their new sw9 sub which alone costs $900 just for the sub.

The 990D's sub gets a bit muddy on the low end, whereas the SW9 is punchy and clean. To my ears, the difference is literally like a muddy "drone" versus a tight, impactful "thud." If you have the space and the budget, confidently go for the SW9.
