Apple TV

Apple TV is widely considered a premium streaming solution, frequently recommended as a high-performance alternative to built-in smart TV operating systems. Users praise its speed, clean interface, and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem, particularly for audio features like Atmos and high-resolution output. While it is a staple in high-end home theater setups for its superior upscaling and stability, some power users find it restrictive due to its lack of audio bitstream passthrough for certain formats and limited physical connectivity.
Pros
- Fast and responsive interface compared to standard smart TV OS options
- High-fidelity audio support, including 24-bit/192 kHz output in recent updates
- Clean, ad-free user experience compared to competitors like Fire TV
- Excellent upscaling and smooth frame-rate handling
- Strong ecosystem features like easy AirPods connectivity and Apple Arcade access
- Reliable support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos across major streaming apps
Cons
- Limited physical I/O with only a single HDMI port and no optical (Toslink) output
- Lack of full audio passthrough for non-Atmos content, which can interfere with AVR upmixing features like Neural:X
- Closed ecosystem may feel restrictive for users of 'gray area' or IPTV applications
- Occasional metadata confusion in the store regarding 3D vs 2D content availability
Caveats
- Requires an external HDMI audio splitter if optical audio output is needed for older hardware
- Advanced home theater users may need to adjust settings to manage how the device handles multi-channel PCM output
- High-resolution audio benefits may require specific software versions (e.g., tvOS 27 beta) and compatible external amplifiers
Best for
- Users seeking a fast, premium, and ad-free streaming experience
- Privacy-conscious owners who prefer to keep their smart TVs disconnected from the internet
- Apple ecosystem users who utilize AirPods or Apple Music
Avoid if
- You require native optical audio output without using adapters
- You need full bitstream passthrough for advanced legacy audio upmixing on an AVR
- You prefer the open flexibility and sideloading capabilities of Google TV

And don’t sleep in the immersive films on AppleTV+ — those rock.
I'm contemplating buying apple TV eventually for the cleaner interface.
if u are going to use this tv with firetv cube gen 3,nvidia shield pro, apple tv,etc support dolby atmos dolby vision then u dont need to play with this tv setting.
Absolutely. It's one of my most favorite and most used Apple products. Android TVs are usually slow and cumbersome while Apple TV is super fast and only focuses on couple of apps you actually use. Switching between apps is super easy, controls are great, you can easily connect AirPods, kids can play Apple Arcade games and the list of benefits goes on. 10/10 device.
If you buy a streaming box like Apple TV or Shield TV and plug it into the soundbar you can get Atmos sound.
Apple, Netflix, Disney, HBO Max, and Prime have Dolby Vision/Atmos and some good movies/shows to test out.
A Denon 3800 is supported by a Panasonic UB820, PS5, Fluance RT82 and Apple TV for streaming.
Apple TV
Apple TV is the most consistently good audio IMO. Picture quality is great too.
I would honestly really recommend to use the built-in GoogleTV system and dropping the AppleTV, at least i personally wouldn't switch to AppleTV for any amount of money, the flexibility i want from my projector just isn't there
