Pros

• Ibanez and Schecter are great bang for your buck in that range. ... The funny thing is Schecter is owned by ESP, but I have found their cheaper offerings to be better than the cheaper LTD's.
• If you’re into heavier stuff, Schecter’s stuff around that price point can be pretty fantastic. Even if you aren’t, they’re great playing guitars and you can cover a lot of ground with a pickup swap.
• Anyways, I always recommend Schecter guitars. Used ones. Used Schecters are gonna give you about the most bang for your buck. They're really good guitars for the money.
• I personally am a big fan of Ibanez and Schecter, but plenty of great brands.
• My schecter with tonerider humbucker pickups sounds very precise and bell like. Great bass and round mids.

Cons

• I tried Epiphones, Fenders, Schechters and a few other brands and just kept going back to the the Ibanez.
• I saw a post where a person was deciding between a $1000 Schecter or Jackson, but was open to other suggestions.
• I played one at guitar center trying to look for my first guitar and it felt great but didn't really like the sound
• I can't help but look at that schecter and think it's made from granite counter tops
