Pros
- Do it! You will never regret it, except your wallet will be a little painful for awhile.
- I’m moving soon and was planning to sell the saw I have and get a newer one, so I guess it’ll be a sawstop
- OP's mad but is in fact the textbook case for sawstop proponents:"even if you're careful, what if?".
- I think if you trigger it from skin contact sawstop will replace it for free if you send it in to them (unless they stopped doing that).
- All that being said, I am so so so grateful I have the SawStop. I was telling my wife how mad I was at myself and she said, "imagine how you'd feel if were driving to the hospital right now".
Cons
- What's this culture of victim blaming when a shitty product malfunctions? It's a notoriously unreliable product that costs many users a lot of time and money when it malfunctions. When the product requires a hundred different excuses and...
- I was adjusting the brake spacing after swapping out for my dado stack. **The saw was turned off and unplugged**. My adjustment mechanism was stuck so I tapped the set screw with my mallet and a piece of scrap wood (*gently* — I use the...
- Everyone seems to love Sawstop saws so I'm wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm now $350 into brakes for this thing and I've barely used it.
- Sawstop keeps triggering the brakes ($125 a pop) for no reason. ... I'm now $350 into brakes for this thing and I've barely used it.
- Meh. My uncle Lefty always says "Sawstops are expensive, fingers are free"

Parent context: Sawstop seems too good to be true. It seems impossible to stop a sawblade in the time available. Good thing they didn’t ask for my opinion! Glad your hand is ok! Reply: Honestly I saw the video of the hotdog and thought obviously that is marketing. Maybe you won't lose your hand but it'll still cut you pretty deep. Which is still an improvement. Nope, literally stopped quicker than you can blink your eye.
Was stripping some trim and as moving forward my knee buckled and my hand fell into the saw. It immediately stopped. This is the only injury. ... Though any other saw I would be in the ER right now with at least some stitches at a minimum.
What's this culture of victim blaming when a shitty product malfunctions? It's a notoriously unreliable product that costs many users a lot of time and money when it malfunctions. When the product requires a hundred different excuses and bullying fanboys to defend it every time it malfunctions, maybe it's just not a great product and the company should improve it.
I was adjusting the brake spacing after swapping out for my dado stack. **The saw was turned off and unplugged**. My adjustment mechanism was stuck so I tapped the set screw with my mallet and a piece of scrap wood (*gently* — I use the word “tapped” intentionally). Bang, it stuck into the blade. I’m really frustrated, didn’t even think this was a possibility.
Everyone seems to love Sawstop saws so I'm wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm now $350 into brakes for this thing and I've barely used it.
