Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Leatherman Arc is a premium multitool widely praised for its one-handed operation and high-quality MagnaCut blade steel. While many users consider it a 'game changer' that can replace a dedicated pocket knife, its high price point makes it a controversial upgrade for those who already own established models like the Wave+.

Pros

  • Easy one-handed opening for the main blade and most tools
  • High-end MagnaCut steel blade stays sharp longer than standard multitool blades
  • Versatile enough for professional maintenance and electrical work
  • Capable of replacing a standalone folding knife for many users

Cons

  • High retail price makes it difficult to justify over cheaper alternatives
  • Blade length is slightly shorter compared to the Leatherman Wave
  • Pliers lack a spring-action mechanism
  • Can feel like overkill for users who only need basic tools like scissors and a small knife

Caveats

  • Many enthusiasts feel the need to further customize the tool with third-party clips, lights, or bit adapters
  • Some long-time Leatherman users still prefer the ergonomics or value of the Wave+ or SAK models

Best for

  • Maintenance technicians and electricians
  • EDC enthusiasts who want a one-handed premium multitool
  • Users looking for a multitool with superior blade steel

Avoid if

  • You are on a strict budget
  • You already own a Wave+ and find it sufficient for your needs
  • You prefer spring-loaded pliers

Considering putting away my old trusty pocket knife after picking up my new Leatherman Arc. The blade that came with the multitool is fantastic and super sharp.

Parent context: Thanks for the input. Have been thinking about buying a Leatherman and I’m leaning toward the Arc. I think I’m gonna get it Reply: Go for it! I think you'll be happy with one. Its pricey but i think its worth it. I actually have 2 back up ones. I used to be a big pocket knife guy. But I've pretty much retired everything else and just carry they arc.

Personally I like the ARC the best for the size and tool set. Its full size but not obnoxious in the pocket.

I find this carry perfect the wallet in my left back pocket with the swisscard inside I don’t even notice it. Than the flashlight is clipped in my left front pocket with my phone and the Leatherman is clipped in the right front pocket and the zippo sits in the bottom off the pocket
