Samsung Odyssey Neo G8
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is a polarizing 32" 4K MiniLED monitor that offers industry-leading contrast and HDR performance for a VA panel, but is frequently criticized for persistent technical flaws. While it is one of the few displays to offer a 240Hz refresh rate at 4K, many users report that this mode is marred by visible scanlines. Opinions are mixed, with some users praising its immersive curve and speed, while others recommend the lower-tier Neo G7 to avoid the G8's aggressive matte coating and reliability issues.
Pros
- Excellent HDR performance and high contrast typical of quality MiniLED VA panels
- Fast response times with significantly reduced smearing compared to traditional VA monitors
- High 240Hz refresh rate for smooth 4K gaming
- Effective reflection handling and deep black levels
Cons
- Frequent reports of visible scanlines, particularly when running at the maximum 240Hz refresh rate
- Ultramatte screen coating can make text and documents appear 'greasy' or 'hazy'
- Aggressive 1000R curvature is polarizing and may not suit all desk setups
- Quality control concerns including flickering, panel dust, and issues waking from sleep
Caveats
- Many users suggest the Neo G7 as a superior alternative because it lacks the scanline issues and has a less aggressive screen coating.
- The 240Hz refresh rate may be redundant for console players or PC users without top-tier GPUs.
Best for
- Immersive HDR gaming
- Users who prioritize deep blacks and high contrast over wide viewing angles
- Competitive gamers wanting 4K at high refresh rates
Avoid if
- You are sensitive to scanlines or PWM flickering
- Your primary use case involves heavy text-based productivity
- You prefer flat screens or subtle curves

The Neo G8 has a controller. Curvature is actually a good thing on this one... However, don't get the G8. If you're going the MiniLED VA route, go with the Neo G7 32". It's 165hz, not 240hz, but you don't need 240hz on a PS5 or even any PC without a 5090 inside for that matter. The G8 is ultramatte, so the text in your documents will look greasy and hazy, and it often exhibits scanlines in its 240hz mode, which are very noticeable outside of games.
The Samsung Neo G7 and G8 are to this day the very best 32" 4k MiniLED monitors you can get, with the G8 being ultramatte and prone to scanlines at 240hz, so I irk towards the G7.
There's also the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 which is a mini LED QD VA, but I hear response times in the blacks is an issue and they're curved if that's your thing.
If you want more contrast and not Oled idk if theres much else than Neo G7 and Neo G8, i went from 32"G7 to Neo G8.
Do not get the G8. The G8 has scanlines when running at 240hz mode.
Yeah, decent monitor with none of the drawbacks of the Neo G8.
Even for the Samsungs there are G3, G5, G6, G7, G8, G9. And even for the G8s for example, the neo G8 is different from the G80SD that is different from the G81SF, although all of them are technically G8s.
I had the Samsung Neo G8 and switched up to this monitor with absolutely 0 regrets it’s awesome.
Maybe look at the NEO G8 although it’s 32”
the Neo G8 is still probably one of the best Mini LEDs out there for HDR and one of the faster VAs.
