Samsung Odyssey Neo G7
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 is highly regarded as one of the top-performing non-OLED monitors, particularly praised for its MiniLED backlight which delivers contrast and black levels that approach OLED quality. It is a 4K VA-panel monitor that stands out for having significantly faster response times and less "black smearing" than typical VA displays, making it a strong contender for both high-end gaming and media consumption.
Pros
- Excellent contrast and deep blacks thanks to effective MiniLED local dimming.
- Impressive motion performance for a VA panel with minimal black smearing.
- Sharp 4K resolution that performs well for both gaming and productivity.
- Generally considered a more stable and better-value alternative to the Neo G8, avoiding that model's frequent scanline issues.
- Strong HDR performance that is competitive with high-end displays.
Cons
- Aggressive 1000R curve is polarizing and can cause distortion or discomfort for some users.
- Narrow viewing angles typical of VA panels; image quality degrades if not viewed from the dead center.
- Large, bulky stand with wide legs that consume significant desk space.
- Reports of a 'Samsung QC lottery' regarding panel consistency and quality control.
- HDR EOTF tracking can result in 'black crush,' where fine shadow details are lost.
Caveats
- The backlight strobing (motion blur reduction) feature is described by some users as useless.
- While fast for an LCD, it still lacks the absolute motion clarity of QD-OLED panels.
- Color accuracy in HDR can be inconsistent and may vary between individual units.
Best for
- Gamers wanting high contrast and HDR without the burn-in risks of OLED.
- Users who primarily sit directly in front of the screen and appreciate an immersive curve.
- 4K console gaming on PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Avoid if
- You strongly prefer flat screens or find aggressive curves disorienting.
- You require wide viewing angles for co-op gaming or professional color work.
- You have a shallow desk that cannot accommodate the large monitor stand.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 388 days, which may not reflect the most recent firmware updates or newer competing MiniLED releases.

The Neo G7 definitely has the worst viewing angles, but I don't care about that, really, as when I'm using a monitor, it's always a single monitor setup and I'm sitting right in front of it - at a 90cm sitting distance, the curve of the Neo G7 isolates you from the VA glow completely. ... Neo G7's sRGB mode is extremely bad, but I wouldn't sweat it for games as Windows ACM does a good enough job there.
The Neo G7 is the best one for me for gaming but it's not half-bad for work too.
Therefore, the Neo G7 is probably the best monitor option that comes close to an OLED in terms of contrast. ... I actually prefer the Neo G7 compared to even the S90F, which is a loy brighter than any OLED monitor, when it comes to SDR, as the Neo G7 has no ASBL to annoy me.
In SDR I actually even prefer the Neo G7, tbh. A crazy good deal for this price. Just wish they made a worthy successor as this boy is 4 years old now and is still not beaten, even by the few TCL monitors with newer VA panels.
the Neo G7 is definitely better tuned than the 32R84.
But my Neo G7's algorithm always prefers lower brightness to blooming, so it might make them very dim and even cut some of the stats but it will avoid blooming in HDR at all costs.
For gaming and movies, I'd say OLED > MiniLED VA >> MiniLED IPS. BUT, this is with the Neo G7, I can't account for any other VA, especially the cheapest ones, which are proven to be a lot slower and problematic. I'm not a professional player and the Neo G7 is fast enough for me - I see no ghosting or anything. The colors and contrast are much closer to my QD-OLED than to my MiniLED IPS
Neo G7 you mean? It's a very good monitor, absolutely worth it.
The Samsung Neo G7 and G8 are to this day the very best 32" 4k MiniLED monitors you can get
I can personally recommend the Neo G7 as one of, if not, the best out there, but it's a 4k one.
