Samsung HW-Q900F
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Samsung HW-Q900F is a high-performance 7.1 channel soundbar system frequently described as the flagship Q990F model but without the included rear satellite speakers. It is highly regarded for its powerful dual 8-inch subwoofer and its ability to create a convincing Dolby Atmos "bubble" using its up-firing drivers, making it a popular choice for those who want premium sound but lack the space for rear speakers.
Pros
- Features a powerful dual 8-inch subwoofer that users prefer over the smaller designs in the Q800 series
- High volume ceiling with significant power even at low volume settings
- Effective Dolby Atmos performance with dedicated up-firing speakers
- Identical main bar and subwoofer hardware to the flagship Q990F
Cons
- Lacks physical rear speakers, which limits the surround sound experience compared to 11.1 systems
- Pricing can be inconsistent, with some users finding the newer Q990D for similar or lower prices
Caveats
- While it is a 7.1 system, the surround effect is generated entirely from the front bar and subwoofer
- The value proposition depends heavily on current sales, as it often competes closely in price with more complete Samsung bundles
Best for
- Users who want flagship-level audio and bass without the clutter of rear speakers
- Watching Atmos-heavy movies in rooms where stands or wall-mounting rears isn't possible
- Samsung ecosystem users looking for a high-end bar at a lower price point than the full Q990 series
Avoid if
- You have the space and budget for a full 11.1 system with dedicated rear speakers
- You can find the Q990D or Q990F on sale for a similar price
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~295 days) and comes from a single specialized subreddit, which may affect relevance for current pricing and newer model comparisons.

I am going to try both the Q900F and the Q990D.
I have the Q900F on its way to me from Samsung direct. I noticed yesterday I could get the Q990D cheaper than I paid for the 900F.
Or I'd say go grab a Samsung Q990F, or the Q900F if you don't care for the rear speakers.
I settled on the Samsung Q900F. I ordered it from Best Buy on Tuesday and it arrived on yesterday. I set it up this afternoon and so far I love it!
The Q900F does NOT come with rear speakers, and if you plan on having them, you will have to buy them separately, and the ones that you can buy as an option, are not as good as the rear speakers that come with the Q990F-H. ... you’re getting a bad deal at $1k for a 900F..
If you can get the Q900F I'd aim for that as long as rears don't matter to you. Much stronger & deeper playing subwoofer and more powerful soundbar.
I have a Q900F. I bought it last November. I was immediately impressed when I set it up. However, shortly after, it updated to 1013 and that seemed to reduce bass level. ... Anyways, it updated to 1100.4 not too long ago (1 - 2 weeks ago I think) and it definitely sounds better.
Noticeable sound difference...not that the Q800F was bad in any way. Granted, my Q900F lost some of it's "wow" after a firmware update (version 1013). It seems to have regained it with the most recent update (version 1100 I believe) though.
Yeah, probably the Sammy Q900F. Just be aware it only has a 6" bass driver (plus an 8" passive radiator, i.e., dummy speaker) so the bass isn't going to kick quite like it's bigger brother (Q990 series).
If he doesn't need/want rear speakers, the Q900F saves several hundred dollars.
