Pocketbook Verse Pro
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Pocketbook Verse Pro is a 6-inch e-reader valued for its inclusion of physical page-turn buttons and waterproofing in a compact form factor. It is frequently recommended for users who prefer an open ecosystem with easy sideloading and broad file compatibility, including EPUBs and audiobooks via Bluetooth. However, it faces stiff competition regarding screen contrast, with several users noting that its Carta 1200 display lags behind the newer Carta 1300 screens found in competitors like the Kobo Clara BW.
Pros
- Physical page-turn buttons on a compact 6-inch device
- Waterproof design (IPX8), unlike the standard Verse model
- Excellent file compatibility and hassle-free sideloading via USB
- Adjustable warm light (color temperature) for night reading
- Supports audiobooks through Bluetooth headphones or speakers
- Comfortable form factor that supports landscape reading
Cons
- Lower screen contrast compared to the Kobo Clara BW
- Lacks the microSD card slot found on the non-Pro Verse model
- Software and OS can feel laggy or buggy to some users
- Mixed reports on the build quality of the physical buttons
- Touchscreen responsiveness is occasionally criticized
Caveats
- The screen uses Carta 1200 technology, which some users find noticeably less crisp than the Carta 1300 used in newer rivals.
- While it supports audiobooks, it requires Bluetooth as there is no built-in speaker or headphone jack.
Best for
- Readers who want physical buttons without moving to a larger 7-inch device
- Users who frequently sideload books from various sources rather than a single store
- Reading in the bath or near water
Avoid if
- You prioritize the highest possible screen contrast and sharpness
- You require expandable storage via microSD card
- You are sensitive to interface lag or software inconsistencies
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 402 days, which may mean recent software updates are not fully reflected in the user sentiment.

Parent context: Do you know how the PB Verse Pro's screen compares to Kobo Clara BW's? I'm in the market for a 6 inch e-reader too and I really like that the PB includes physical buttons, but they seemed to have cheaped out on the screen. PB's screen being Cart HD while the latest Kobo Clara BW has the Carta 1300. Reply: I’d go for the Verse Pro to get the 300ppi Carta 1200 screen in that case.
throw in another 40 dollars and end up with a pocketbook verse pro for more features
6": PocketBook Verse Pro or Kobo Clara BW.
I would go with the Kobo Clara BW or the PocketBook Verse Pro. They have pretty similar specs, but PocketBooks have physical page-turn buttons.
Alternatively there's the b/w 6" PocketBook Verse Pro (lower contrast than the Clara BW)
And the Verse isn't waterproof, but the (more expensive) Verse Pro.
Your Verse Pro should even be faster than my InkPad 4, because it has fewer stuff to render (most black & white devices from PocketBook have a 2x1GHZ Cpu).
The PocketBook Verse Pro is waterproof (not the standard one), also all 7'' Eras and the 8'' InkPads.
6'' PocketBook Verse Pro if you are willing to accept a lower contrast
Yeah, pocketbook rocks. Got myself a verse pro because I wanted something more portable than my paperwhite 5, and it has become my main reader also at home. Really appreciate the physical page turn buttons and direct USB file transfer.
