Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The LG C5 is widely praised as a top-tier OLED television, particularly favored for home theater and gaming applications. Users consistently highlight its 'flawless' black levels, exceptional HDR performance, and superior image processing compared to budget competitors. It is frequently cited as a 'best of both worlds' option that balances high-end features like four HDMI 2.1 ports with excellent motion handling and SDR scaling. While it is generally considered bright for an OLED, some users find it struggles in rooms with significant natural light, and the remote control remains a point of contention.

Pros

  • Excellent picture quality with 'flawless' black levels and high contrast.
  • Superior image processing and scaling for SDR and sub-4K content.
  • Phenomenal gaming performance with instant pixel response and four HDMI 2.1 ports.
  • Strong motion control and color accuracy compared to budget mini-LED alternatives.
  • Premium build quality and aesthetic design.

Cons

  • Can appear dim when used in rooms with high daytime or natural light.
  • The remote control design is disliked by some users.
  • Higher price point than budget-oriented brands like TCL or Hisense.
  • Reports of eye strain or discomfort for a small subset of users.

Caveats

  • Mounting larger sizes (77"+) may require specialized hardware if significant extension from the wall is needed.
  • While it features 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, some competitors in the same price bracket may offer higher peak brightness.

Best for

  • Dedicated home theater environments, especially dark rooms.
  • High-end gaming on PS5, Xbox Series X, or PC.
  • Users who watch a mix of legacy SDR content and modern 4K HDR media.

Avoid if

  • The TV will be placed in a very bright room with direct sunlight.
  • You are on a strict budget and primarily care about brightness over black levels.
  • You are particularly sensitive to OLED-related eye fatigue.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is based on mentions from late 2025 with a median age of approximately 277 days; as this is a fast-changing hardware category, users should verify if newer models have since been released.

It holds up my new 65" LG C5 pumping out some HDR content just fine.

Both of those MSI Mini-LED monitors are on the Rtings votes with the 4K 1080p dual mode in 2nd place behind the LG C5, so it should win the vote next round.

Well, even the 42" version of it is a nice little upgrade over the C2. ... BUT, the C5 42" is again still a good upgrade.

More recently I tried a 42 inch LG C5 that I got for a deal from bestbuy, and it was much better, but still just....kinda ok? I made sure to go through and fix up all my HDR settings, calibrate everything correctly, make sure my blurays and games were playing correctly, and yeah HDR does look better, but really not that much better. And of course this panel has a bunch of downsides too with how annoying HDR is to manage in Windows, SDR brightness being a pretty large downgrade over my old IPS panel, burn in being a real concern

Actually bought an open box LG C5... They were great purchases. The C5 I purchased was returned because it had some sort of adhesive residue on the back of the tv. I got some rubbing alcohol and a rag and literally spend 2 minutes cleaning the adhesive off. Basically a brand new tv that I saved a few hundred bucks on.
