Pros

  • I got a Joule and never looked back. It heats faster, quiet, needs less water depth, etc..
  • The main difference is the Joule is a bit more powerful (e.g., faster to heat up), and has a very robust app integration with cook times with visual guides. ... I find it valuable as Chefsteps/Breville have a lot of good content and test...
  • I have 3 of the joules and I really like them. They are very accurate for temp and they can heat a really large volume of water.
  • I'd just get the Joule. It's a bit expensive but the app has been amazing with all the recipes. It's super easy and is like a hack for good food.
  • I've had my Joule since it first released. It's still going strong

Cons

  • Was doing 2 tri-tips and my stupid Joule broke...for the 3rd time...about 6 hours in.
  • 2 Anovas, and 1 dead Joule. I will not buy another Joule.
  • The joule isn't easy to purchase in the UK it seems.
  • I just couldn't get past the fact that there are 0 controls on the device itself. I'm not against app integration, or even having extra things you can only get to on the app, but having it be a paperweight without the app it's a no go fo...
  • My Joule, which I purchased in December of 2016 has not passed on to the other side. RIP

The main difference is the Joule is a bit more powerful (e.g., faster to heat up), and has a very robust app integration with cook times with visual guides. ... I find it valuable as Chefsteps/Breville have a lot of good content and tested recipes, which saves me time hunting things down and knowing what I'm doing will work.

Don't buy any unit where an app is REQUIRED to use it, like the Joule. Not only could they eventually ask for a subscription cost (like Anova did, but that failed because we don't NEED the app to use an Anova), but it is more cumbersome than just using controls on the unit
