AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The iPhone 15 is generally regarded as a solid, reliable device with high-quality hardware and satisfying haptics, though opinions are mixed regarding its long-term durability and lack of modern AI features. While many users appreciate its camera performance and satellite messaging capabilities, others report issues with overheating and battery degradation as the device ages.

Pros

  • Reliable satellite messaging for emergency communication without extra fees
  • High-quality unedited photo performance
  • Satisfying haptic feedback and reliable Face ID performance
  • Strong hardware value when purchased refurbished or used

Cons

  • Lacks support for Apple Intelligence features
  • Reports of overheating and performance slowing down over time
  • Battery life is criticized for deteriorating relatively quickly
  • Limited charging speed capped at 20W

Caveats

  • Some users reported a pinkish hue in videos when using the flashlight
  • Multiple reports of screen durability issues requiring frequent replacements
  • Transitioning from Android to iOS on this model can be difficult for some users

Best for

  • Users committed to the iOS ecosystem looking for a cheaper alternative to Pro models
  • Hikers and travelers who value built-in satellite messaging
  • People upgrading from much older hardware like the iPhone 11 or 12

Avoid if

  • You want access to the latest Apple Intelligence (AI) features
  • You require fast charging speeds beyond 20W
  • You are concerned about long-term battery health and thermal management

If I could find one with a decent price, I'd have gotten the 15 since I don't care for Apple intelligence and the hardware was enough for my use.

The iPhone 15 is a good phone, and it’s always been since it launched. But, it is two years older. That doesn’t matter a lot though, since the iPhone 15 is still the objectively better hardware.

Why is the choice between Samsungs flagship device vs a 2 gen old base iPhone?

I jumped from a Xr to a 15, and I still use the Xr for my work phone.

I have an iPhone 15. Regardless of when that happens, I plan on upgrading my iPhone either when it is no longer eligible for security or iOS updates OR maybe when the iPhone 20 or XX or whatever they call it comes out.

Stick to the iOS environment, buy iphone 15. It is the same with current device, but cheaper. Buy refurbished.

I’ve had my 15 for a while and it’s starting to really slow down/spas out and die pretty quickly.
