r100 might be just fine for OP but the r50 really *is* great bang for the buck so i think it's smart to consider all options.
the Canon online refurbished store has R50 $429 and R10 $599 (with kit lens).
Canon EOS R50 is cheap but RF-lenses are very expensive because there is no competition from 3rd party manufactures.
I'd recommend swapping to the R50. It can do video basically as well, it's just set up more for photography.
But I would say R50 is an awesome starting option. Just gotta understand what the tradeoffs are for bokeh and how it effects focal length. But 475ish is a solid price imo.
Is a (refurbished/secondhand) R50 or R10 in your budget? If so, that'd be my pick. You get the bonusses of mirrorless, like auto focus bracketting etc. and you retain the reach.
R50 if you don't have the budget for R10, but if you can get the R10 > get the R10
R50 will in almost all cases take the same image as R10, it’s just going to be slower and more cumbersome to access settings since most of it is on screen.
It’s a great backup/travel/ultra-compact setup (it’s my travel alternative to R5/R7).
when they have R50 on sale every couple months it’s under $500 with the kit lens, truly one of the best deals in photography.
