Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The iPhone 13 Pro is frequently cited as a major milestone for the series, particularly praised for its 120Hz ProMotion display and long-term durability. While many users report it remains a high-performing device years after release, sentiment is increasingly split due to aging hardware. Common points of praise include its camera's utility for 3D scanning and its smooth high-refresh-rate screen, while recent criticisms focus on battery degradation, lack of support for new Apple Intelligence features, and software glitches on newer iOS versions.

Pros

  • 120Hz ProMotion display remains a standout feature, even compared to newer base-model iPhones
  • Strong camera performance, specifically noted for high-quality 3D scanning and point cloud generation
  • Considered a significant 'milestone' upgrade over the iPhone 12 series with better longevity
  • Generally reliable performance for long-term users, with some reporting no issues even on beta software

Cons

  • Significant battery degradation reported by long-term users, sometimes leading to total failure
  • Does not support Apple Intelligence (AI) features, prompting some users to switch to newer devices
  • Reports of software instability on newer iOS versions, including keyboard glitches and UI stuttering
  • Connectivity and heat management issues, specifically regarding Wi-Fi calling and dropped calls

Caveats

  • NFC scanning may fail or behave inconsistently if the flashlight is currently turned on
  • The 128GB base storage model may feel restrictive or 'unusable' under modern software demands
  • Camera processing can occasionally crash the device, resulting in lost photos

Best for

  • Users seeking a high-refresh-rate display on a budget
  • People looking for a reliable older flagship that still holds decent trade-in value
  • Mobile 3D scanning and AR applications

Avoid if

  • You want access to the latest Apple Intelligence (AI) features
  • You are buying used and cannot verify the battery health
  • You require the absolute best thermal management for hot climates

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age of 292 days), and because smartphones are a fast-changing product category, confidence is medium.

13 Pro or Pro Max seems like a great milestone over the 12 series, and it should be good for years.

But I switched to an iphone 13 pro a couple years ago. I definitely liked being able to customize the phone way more, but I also heavily prefer Apple's privacy policies.

I went from a iPhone 13 pro to a Google Pixel 6. It's okay but I miss the Shortcuts app on iPhone.
