Hils HN4

Pros

• I have a Hils HN4 for playing on the sofa. I have no complaints
• HILs HN4 or HN5 is your best bet. They have Alchemy trems. The HN4 has ceramic passive pickups and the HN5 has actives.
• Hils HN4 and Tonex plug a winning setup for this lazy guitarist
• I have three Hils guitar. HN3, HN4 and HZ7. All three are excellent guitars that benefit from a fret level and new pickups.
• I have just recently got a hn4, so tremolo version, and it looks and plays really well in my humble opinion. I find it sturdy, but at the same time really easy to set up, restring etc.

Cons

• HN4 had a myriad of issues, uneven frets, slightly warped neck and a temperamental tremolo. Took me two different luthiers to get it to play right.
• Can’t say the same for my HN4. Frets were uneven past the 12th fret and the alchemy tremolo is very finnicky. It’s tolerable after some work with the luthier but I probably wouldn’t get a tremolo one again
• The HILS/Alchemy trem is great, but it won't go back perfectly in tune if you bomb it. If you take the tension off the strings, the ball ends will shift slightly in their tuner cradles and tuning will drift a tad.
• The HN4 is good too but the tremolo bridge is a bit of a PITA.
• I just got a Hils HN4. ... the fretwork is a disappointment. When I lower the action everything is buzzing. I definitely need to send it to a luthier. Most youtubers praise Hils but I guess that has to do with the fact that it has better...
