Hils HN3
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Hils HN3 is generally well-regarded as a high-value, lightweight headless guitar, though users frequently note that the stock pickups are a weak point. While many owners report receiving instruments with great action and intonation, there are documented instances of quality control issues including rusted hardware and mismatched pickup specifications.
Pros
- Extremely lightweight and ergonomic body shape
- Excellent value for the price point (often cited around $500)
- Comfortable thigh cutout for classical playing positions
- Smooth satin neck finish
Cons
- Stock pickups are frequently described as poor quality or 'hot garbage'
- Frets are relatively low/small, which can make string bending more difficult
- Potential for quality control issues such as rusted screws, corroded hardware, or cosmetic chips
- Restringing has a steep learning curve for first-time users
Caveats
- Pickup output measurements may not match the manufacturer's advertised specifications
- Some units may require a full fret level and polish to reach their full potential
- The included gig bag has received mixed reports regarding its cleanliness and condition upon arrival
Best for
- Budget-conscious players looking for a lightweight headless instrument
- Guitarists comfortable with performing their own upgrades, particularly pickup swaps
Avoid if
- You want high-quality stock electronics without needing immediate modifications
- You prefer large or jumbo frets for easier string bending

I absolutely love my Hn3. I enjoy playing it way more than Strandberg Original.
My HN3 was well set up and plays like butter and I absolutely love it.
I bought the hils hn3. Love this guitar. Very light and extremely comfortable.
Played a boden essential, felt noticeably worse than my hils hn3.
Never tried the baritone but I got lucky with my HN3. No setup issues or flaws whatsoever and very comfortable to play.
My hn3 aside from the stiff tuners was really well done no sharp ends etc etc. The ergos were better because it wasnt baritone so theres no neck dive. Weight 4.5 lbs.
The tuners are sooo hard to turn. The pickups on the hn3 kinda suck
Anyway, enjoy! It’s a great guitar.
Been very happy with it. The bearings make a good bit of difference. My tech said if you use all three pieces (two silicone washers and the bearing) it does reduce how much you can tune by a little bit. Just be sure to pull your strings tight before clamping them down and it wont be a problem.
I bought hils hn3 from https://www.thomann.gr . Everything was smooth
