Fedora Workstation (being based on Gnome) is probably along the lines of what you're after, others mentioned it too. It has good dev tooling and has a reasonable update cycle that I like a lot more than a lot of Debian-based

I'll recommend going with Workstation for new users.

Fedora workstation. You get the latest packages in a stable build.

Choose Fedora if you want new featured early but tested while Debian is known for rock solid stability.

It is highly smooth, reasonably stable and popular solution.

On specifically my laptop I've had the best results with Fedora Workstation.

Surprisingly, it even managed to run Fedora Workstation pretty fluently despite opening multiple browser tabs. Linux really is a miracle. It ran a modern, heavy GNOME much better than it ever ran on Windows. It was actually usable.

For uni work, I go with fedora workstation, since it works well with my Asus laptop

Parent context: I have the same laptop, E14 Gen 5 with Intel i5-1335u, except I have the smaller battery - 47Wh when new, now 41.7Wh. Reply: I'm running Fedora Workstation and Powertop reports a usage around 7 watts in power saver mode and around 9 in balance mode. That's with 6 Firefox brower tabs and brightness set around 10%.
