Pros

  • the atomic \ immutable version Fedora Kinoite.
  • I love the order of an atomic distro and Flatpaks work perfectly for my use case. I get a well-updated, current Linux distro without the hassles of a rolling release or worries about anything breaking, because rollbacks are baked in. M...
  • Fedora kionite. No need to hop.
  • In fact, for your use case, I'd suggest you check out the atomic distro I use, Fedora Kinoite.
  • You might want to look at Fedora Workstation or Fedora Silverblue or Fedora Kinoite as your use case aligns well with how people actually use Fedora.

Cons

  • Avoid Atomic distros like Bazzite or Fedora Kinoite, as you are doing development, you'll require more access than the system is likely to give you.
  • I was looking into Fedora kinoite, but I kinda want to stay on Arch :/
  • Parent context: Fedora 44 KDE Plasma ... I just switched from Windows 11 and setting it up was extremely easy . ... Just make sure to do the media codecs and hardware decoding . Super easy to do even for a noob Reply: Same here. Exept on...

I love the order of an atomic distro and Flatpaks work perfectly for my use case. I get a well-updated, current Linux distro without the hassles of a rolling release or worries about anything breaking, because rollbacks are baked in. My system stays pristine. No possibility of dependency hell.

My OS will be Fedora Kinoite. This is build is overkill for my needs, but that's the objective. I want a quiet, cool running, dependable PC.

Parent context: Fedora 44 KDE Plasma ... I just switched from Windows 11 and setting it up was extremely easy . ... Just make sure to do the media codecs and hardware decoding . Super easy to do even for a noob Reply: Same here. Exept one thing: i go with Fedora Kinoite and therefore codecs are not "super easy for noob" but more like "fairly easy for noob. Needed a little reading what Atomic Desktop is and what it means regarding software installation".

fedora kinoite also performed admirably. The difference between them is kinoite is immutable/atomic while fedora kde is normal mutable linux.
