Pros

  • Delta credit covers the annual fees - Free checked bags on Delta - 15% off SkyMiles reward flights - Earlier boarding group (to avoid gate checking your carryon) - good signup bonus w/ no first year annual fee
  • If you don't have a Delta Gold, redeeming Delta flights cost more.
  • The Delta Gold might make sense given your work travel - you'd rack up MQMs faster and the companion cert is clutch if you can use it
  • So its better to keep the gold card and the $200 Delta Credit that you can use without restrictions.
  • Delta Gold if you’re married to Delta. Open a card, grab the bonus, repeat.

Cons

  • Both these cards are terrible at earning points. Keep those cards for perks, but there are much better spending options.
  • So do the Delta cards.
  • I was looking at the Delta Gold card because Salt Lake is a Delta hub, but are there better options out there?
  • Delta Gold (which I will probably cancel or downgrade this summer) a sad $150 AF

my wife upgraded her Delta gold to a platinum late last year for the companion fare and sub. We hit hit the sub spending long ago but are continuing to put most of our spending on that card (better than a debit I guess..).
