Pros

  • I'd probably go with the Yamaha or Cort (Cort makes a TON of guitars branded for others) as a cheap Squier may not cut it where their Classic Vibe line which costs more usually will.
  • And just recently I’ve come back to an old pretty cheap Cort I got about 15 years ago and I’m loving that.
  • The Cort isn't a bad option but nothing beats actually playing before buying, especially when you're stepping up from a cheapie
  • Cort makes a pretty good instrument most of the time, too.
  • Look into Cort

I have a vineyard jumbo, a cort and a hohner. All under $300 or right around there, and are each pretty good in their own right

Yamaha is the obvious name brand choice, but do look into Cort. They ghost build guitars for other name brands and their quality is excellent for the price. I just bought a used Cort for $200 and it stands up very well to a $1,500 Alvarez I recently bought and a $3,000 Taylor.
