Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Better Than Bouillon is widely considered a superior alternative to canned or boxed stocks, praised for its rich flavor, space-saving concentrated paste format, and cost-effectiveness. It is a staple for home cooks who want to mix precise amounts of broth without wasting partial containers of liquid stock, though users frequently highlight its high salt content and inconsistent gluten-free status.

Pros

  • Superior flavor profile compared to most canned or boxed supermarket stocks
  • Concentrated paste saves significant refrigerator and pantry space
  • Cost-effective, providing dozens of servings per jar
  • Reduces food waste by allowing users to mix only the exact amount needed
  • Highly versatile for enhancing soups, sauces, and braising liquids

Cons

  • High sodium content in the standard versions can easily oversalt a dish
  • Not officially certified gluten-free; some varieties like 'reduced sodium' are reported to contain gluten
  • Requires the extra step of boiling water to properly dissolve the paste

Caveats

  • The saltiness can be overwhelming; users often recommend the reduced-sodium version to better control seasoning
  • Gluten presence varies by flavor and version, making it risky for those with celiac disease or strict sensitivities
  • While excellent for cooking, some purists still prefer homemade stock for dishes where broth is the primary flavor

Best for

  • Budget-conscious cooks and meal preppers
  • Small households that rarely use a full carton of stock at once
  • Enhancing the depth of flavor in sauces, gravies, and stews
  • Frugal shoppers who buy in bulk at stores like Costco

Avoid if

  • You require strictly certified gluten-free ingredients
  • You are on a medically restricted low-sodium diet
  • You prefer the immediate convenience of ready-to-pour liquid broth

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 407 days; while the product is a stable pantry staple, users should verify current packaging for any recent changes to ingredients or dietary labels.

Get some soup powder, Better than Bouillon, or a bouillon cube, and put it in a pot with water

OP, you'll probably be happier with Better than Bouillon and mixing up broth as needed. It'll take up a lot less fridge space and taste better.

I also used vegetable stock Better Than Bouillon instead of beef, as I normally would.

Do yourself a favor and get better than bullion. Its substantially better than boxed. You get 38 80s servings from one jar. The only downside is that you gotta boil some water to mix it up.

Better than Bouillon is also a decent option in this kind of vein (and I'd take it over basically every "standard" supermarket beef stock too)

You can use chicken broth instead of beef, or get the beef better than bouillon which actually has good flavor.
