Pros
- I had a work friend grab the mini and it’s awesome. It was like $30 just a couple months ago.
- I got two at Walmart for $20 each a few months ago. Work great
- I bought this one three years ago for roughly the same price. Haven’t had any issues.
- It's a mini, but probably big enough for most applications...
- Try an Anova Mini - currently $43 on Amazon.
Cons
- It was worth it for that price, but anova is definitely gonna software brick it at some point because it's only app controlled.
- Well you see, they removed buttons from the Anova mini so it’s a brick unless you have the app 😂
- Parent context: Can someone confirm that this absolutely requires an app to turn on and off and adjust temperature? If it doesn't I'm gonna buy a few spares. Reply: Yes, it appears you need the app to set temps. The Amazon listing mentio...
- This is the one that requires an app to use and they have paywalled a bunch of stuff right? No thanks.
- I just bought an Anova mini and had some problems with my first cook and wondering if this is normal with these machines. Was aiming for a cook at 135 for 2 hours but ended up having to babysit the anova device. It kept turning off after...

Reply: Yes, it appears you need the app to set temps. The Amazon listing mentions CONTROLS or app but there are no controls to adjust temps. The app is free. Pretty sure the pay walled things are recipes. It's kind of annoying you must use an app but at the same time I don't really want to pay an extra $100 for a couple buttons.

Parent context: I used to have the OG Anova. I got the Anova Mini as a gift recently and it works fine for me. I think they all are pretty much the same. Reply: I just bought this one as my first one. So far loving it. It will work well for my wife and I. I’ll buy a larger one for larger meals when the time comes and keep this for sides, deserts and smaller portions. I’m impressed. There is no need for a subscription. I’m using it without one.
