  • Honestly I found my kids got into far less questionable stuff once I got them off of YouTube kids. There's so much weird, vaguely sexual, stuff on there it's kinda ridiculous. The rest of it is garbage content.

If you name a platform YouTube Kids, the implication is that what you'll find on there is suitable for kids. In my opinion, any product or service that is marketed as 'for kids', implies that it is safe and suitable for kids. ... But YouTube doesn't do that, because that's indirectly admitting that the lack of moderation is an issue, and that conversation then leads to the platform admitting that effective moderation is an expense they don't want to pay for

So many awful videos that will affect a child's attention span, influence their emotions and behaviour in very negative ways and a lot of very unsavoury videos get through their rather lacklustre flagging system and when you do flag videos, nothing gets done. It's a bloody awful site and should be banned. It has a negative impact on children's mental health and those short videos are designed to keep your child watching and they become addicted to the serotonin release.

Requesting all dad's to block YouTube kids completely. It's not safe for your child to be on that app.

Stop using YouTube Kids. It’s not built to protect your kid. It’s built to maximize views, even if that means creepy garbage like this slips through.

A channel on youtube targets unsettling little children by taking familiar content like Numberblocks, Cocomelon, Sesame Street etc. and modifying the audio and visuals into a grotesque repetetive video. Clearly this is aimed at disturbing children's minds at scale. I found it because a Numberblocks video has 14M views in just 7 months and it found its way to my child through the youtube kids algorithm.

Parent context: why don't people use kid profiles and youtube kids on the devices their kids use? It baffles me. You can make a kid specific profile on the devices with appropriate limits... You can also restrict access on most access points these days. Reply: YouTube kids is still full of abaolute junk though isn't it? Maybe age appropriate junk, but still...

We setup our YouTube kids account so that only approved channels are viewable. My only gripe with that is a lot of these channels are introducing shorts and I can’t block shorts.
