Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Disney+ is recognized as a primary source for 4K and 3D content, particularly for Apple Vision Pro users, though it faces significant criticism regarding bitrate compression and technical stability. While users appreciate that 4K is often included without the tier-based upselling seen on other platforms, recent reports highlight inconsistent 3D playback and regional feature removals.

Pros

  • Includes 4K content in standard plans without requiring a higher tier upgrade
  • Strong library of 3D and immersive video content for Apple Vision Pro
  • Exclusive availability of certain titles in 4K 3D (e.g., Ant-Man, Coco)
  • Supports SharePlay for co-watching across devices
  • High bitrate performance reported specifically when using Roku

Cons

  • Significant quality gap compared to physical media due to 12–25 Mbps bitrate compression
  • Inconsistent 3D playback, with reports of movies suddenly reverting to 2D
  • Low audio volume levels compared to other streaming services
  • Regional removal of features, such as Dolby Vision being pulled in Germany
  • Visual issues like graininess reported on specific platforms like Google TV

Caveats

  • Technical glitches including 'chipset errors' have been noted on certain projector hardware
  • 3D availability may coincide with specific account payment cycles or regional licensing
  • Even 4K streams are heavily compressed compared to 1080p Blu-ray discs

Best for

  • Apple Vision Pro owners seeking 3D immersive content
  • Users who want 4K HDR content without paying for a premium subscription tier

Avoid if

  • You are a home theater purist who prefers the uncompressed bitrate of physical media
  • You rely on consistent 3D availability in regions where Dolby Vision support is fluctuating

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of 298 days; because app services change frequently, confidence is medium.

Apple, Netflix, Disney, HBO Max, and Prime have Dolby Vision/Atmos and some good movies/shows to test out.

If you have two children, I'd recommend checking out ... Disney if they're still interested in those.

I’m in the UK also and it doesn’t seem 3D! I definitely don’t get the 3D pop out effect like on the dinosaur demo with 3d movies on disney app. Does it say 3D on the info when you play the movie? It says 3D for me but just looks 2D!

I’m in the UK and 3D is fine for me. Including avatar fire and ash.

None of the movies are streaming in 3d for me. I am currently in UK. Understood that the patent infringement impacted only the EU countries and UK was not in that list. Tried changing the Disney plus account settings to US, still did not work. Also tried using VPN, but Disney identifies and blocks playback.

“Impromptu Travel” and “Disney” seldom belong in the same sentence.
