Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is widely recognized for its industry-leading camera hardware, featuring a 1-inch main sensor and a 200MP telephoto lens that many users claim outperforms major flagships in still photography. However, the premium hardware is frequently offset by software frustrations, with users describing HyperOS as unoptimized or 'half-baked.' While the 'vintage camera' aesthetic is praised, the phone's high price tag and the presence of advertisements within native system apps are significant points of contention.

Pros

  • Top-tier camera hardware, including a 1-inch main sensor and 200MP telephoto lens
  • Distinctive 'vintage camera' design aesthetic in black and silver
  • Exceptional still photography performance that often exceeds competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • High-end hardware specifications across the board

Cons

  • HyperOS software is frequently criticized as unoptimized and lacking polish
  • Presence of advertisements (e.g., Temu ads) within native system settings and apps
  • Physical design is described as heavy and awkward to handle
  • Thermal management and video performance concerns compared to other flagships
  • Lower rated battery charge cycles (1000) compared to some competitors

Caveats

  • Camera performance can be inconsistent and may require manual settings to achieve optimal results
  • Battery life is sufficient for a day but drains rapidly during heavy camera usage
  • AI features are generally considered inferior to those found on Google Pixel devices

Best for

  • Mobile photography enthusiasts who prioritize hardware specs and sensor size
  • Users who prefer a vintage, camera-centric aesthetic
  • Those comfortable with manual camera controls to maximize hardware potential

Avoid if

  • You prioritize a clean, ad-free software experience
  • You want a lightweight or ergonomically balanced smartphone
  • You are looking for the most mature and polished AI or software ecosystem

That being said, the best ones are Vivo X200 Ultra or Pro, Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra

Xiaomi has seriously good camera sensors. 1-inch main camera sensor, that is like the same sensor on a Sony RX100 body. The other cameras are good too, especially the 200mp telephoto.

I’ve already looked at the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and I’m impressed.

If you enjoy Android or are fine with it then I would much rather suggest a year or so older flagships or near the 4 year mark... Xiaomi 15 ultra (mother company of redmi, same OS/HyperOS but should be more fluid and better optimized on paper in theory)

I tested the Xiaomi 15 Ultra for a bit in a local tech store and I saw a temu ad for wallpaper themes in the settings. That’s just crazy, imagine paying over 1000€ for a phone and getting ads in native apps.

I can’t move past how incredible the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in black and silver looks. With that vintage camera vibe, I’m not sure anything tops it.

This info is a few months old, but Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Oppo Find X8 Ultra too have top of the line cameras (in fact even larger sensors - 1" in a mobile phone!).

I used the Xiaomi 15 ultra. If you care about thermals and video a lot, don't get it.

However both phones are worse than my Xiaomi 15 Ultra. iPhone raw and video is still ages ahead.
