Pros

  • I have UDM and one U6 lite with 120m^(2) iron reenforced concreate (also all internal walls). Yeah sure there are some spots and corners where wifi isn't great but those happen to be spots where family really doesn't hang out much anyway.
  • Will I replace my UDM, probably not, but it could be useful to test little networks, and honestly this looks cool and would just be fun to try
  • Parent context: What’s the primary use case for you? Curious what warrants needing a UDM but also portability when renovating. Looks sleek! Reply: It’s running my home network. There is a ton of access points and cameras. Along with a se...
  • We got 7 G5 cameras and 1 AI-LPR for car plates. Dream machine and a 24 port Poe+ switch.
  • I bought a Dream machine, added a few WiFi 5 hotspots wired, and I never touched ever since. It just works.

Cons

  • I would link your UDM to the switch with a short cat 7 or better still a 10g DAT cable.
  • I am setting up a small rack consisting of a unifi 24 poe switch and dream machine.
  • Will I be able to record video from the cameras on the UNAS pro / Dream Machine, or will I need a network video recorder?
  • The Fiber has a 10gb ethernet, the UDM does not, the Fiber has a POE port, the UDM does not, the Fiber has 2.5GB the UDM does not, the Fiber fits a 10 inch rack, the UDM a 19 inch rack, the Fiber has a IDS throughput of 5gbps the UDM has...
  • I just bought a dream machine last week, I haven’t received yet, and it is on sell now😭

Yeah the APs and cameras aren’t terrible but who thought hanging the UDM that way was a good idea. Worse yet this was hanging over people’s heads.
