Pros

  • Trek Roscoe 8/7
  • Of those bikes, I'd probably go with the Trek. It's 1x drivetrain, has a dropper post, hydraulic brakes, and a tapered headtube if you ever wanted to upgrade the fork.
  • I’m in the same boat. Just moved to CO and also have a Roscoe 7. It’s been an amazing first bike, but I have that itch to progress to harder/steeper stuff, and this is only going to get me so far.
  • I’ve seen a LOT of people on here recommending the Roscoe 6,7,8.
  • I currently have a hardtail (Trek Roscoe 7) that I ride on my local XC and single track trails. ... I took the Roscoe to Mont Saint Anne a few years ago and still had a blast (although shaken up by the end of the day lol).

Cons

  • My Trek Roscoe 7 is starting to feel unpleasantly underbiked for the trails I'm now getting on. ... Roscoe has been great for this. It was also great in the bay area and Bend - never did I feel I needed any more bike, and I had a great t...
  • I’ve been looking at the GT Zaskar LT Expert for £999, Trek Roscoe 7 for £976, Specialized Rockhopper Expert for £1000 and the Cube Reaction Pro for £999.

Trek roscoe 7 black is on a crazy sale for 1,099 right now. Way more bike than the Marlin, if you're able to push the budget a bit.

As a Roscoe 7 owner, it’s a bike I’d buy many times over. Great value at $1400, more futureproof for upgrades due to a tapered headtube and boost spacing, and longer travel. You can’t go wrong with it.

IMO the Roscoe is a significantly better bike overall. Dropper, tubeless, boost through axles, deore over sx, worth upgrading in the future etc.
