Pros

  • I think the XT groupset on my last bike actually shifted a bit better.
  • I find that Shimano seems to have cheaper replacement parts (price out an XT cassette vs X01), and prefer the maintenance on their brakes to Sram. Lever feel is totally personal, but of the two, Shimano wins
  • Shimano xt are great
  • No contest. XT is bulletproof. Never ever had any issues with XT on any bikes.
  • XT will be like half the price, lighter, and shift better.

Cons

  • I also went from Shimano XT to the TRPs. At first I didn't like it, as others noted, there's a bit of modulation that the XT does now have. After a few rides, I wouldn't go back.
  • I also ride a bike with XT and that slaps around much more than the Transmission does.
  • Xt have no platform and the platform does absolutely help.
  • Previously ran ... Shimano XT for 5years. I really like the platform support provided by the Hopes compared to Shimano.
  • I have ridden Formula Cura, XT, SLX, Saint, Magura MT5 brakes in the past few years - the Maven Silvers are massive increase in braking power

Transmission is good but XT is tried and tested, shifts very smoothly and is very reliable, replacement parts are cheap and it's easy to mix-match between Deore/SLX/XT/XTR when sourcing replacement parts/deals.

Eagle 90 and xt performance is close to the same, and both are fantastic.

I’ve used clipless pedals for years. Shimano XT and M540’s.
