Pros

  • Now I am deep into regular Zone 2 training, enjoying my relatively modest Kona Dew and Trek Roscoe
  • But Trek Roscoe might have been a slightly better start bike.
  • They have Trek Roscoe as hardtails, and it's absolutely amazing.
  • but otherwise i would look at trek Roscoe/Marlin/procaliper or Canyon Grand Canyon, they might cost a bit more but you get what you pay for.
  • my hardtail is a Roscoe with 140mm stock that I bumped to 150

Cons

  • I decided to extend my budget and look into a Giant Fathom and a TREK Roscoe. Unfortunately, both these bikes are sold out in Aus, The Fathom I've been told is discounted, I am waiting to hear back about the Roscoe.
  • dunno if the Roscoe is too aggressive for the general-purpose riding I want to do
  • Last bike was Trek Roscoe

I'd recommend Craigslist and facebook marketplace for local used stuff. Everyone will price their stuff too high, negotiate it down. If you can find someone selling something like a Trek Roscoe, something like that, like a ~140mm hardtail or so, and try to get something in the 2020's if possible.

You might also consider saving more for a Roscoe instead of Marlin. They're the next tier up for hardballs and you get a lot more bike.
