Through the Ages app

Definitely the app, it has a great tutorial and tons of challenges to help you learn the game. The multiplayer is excellent as well. I have a BGA premium account and the app is still worth it.

The app is far superior. User interface is incredible; can play base game, expansion game, or mixed; and you can “undo” more freely (still not after seeing previously hidden information, but there are definitely times on BGA that I pass my turn and then realize I forgot to play or copy a tactics card and can’t undo passing, but I’d be able to do so on the app).

The app rules. Bought it and the expansion two days into the pandemic. A buddy and I have completed at least one game every other day since. The achievements are fun. There are subtle details like the sky turning red when you declare war. Elegant little details.

this app replaced the physical game for me.. once you play a few times, its really hard to go back to the "accounting" part of the physical board game I think... I would only play this physically if someone else really wanted to play. So yes, I think the app is great

I've played both and the app is as good an app they could have made for the game, it's just that good.

The app is so much better than the BGA version.

The official app has the best tutorial I've ever seen, solid computer opponents and tournament support in addition to online play.
