Pros

  • A Tentacle would more likely fail within 10 years from the abuse of production than being discontinued. FWIW, I don't think I ever used the app.
  • Tentacle-Sync app will overwrite the meta data based on the LTC track.
  • My Tentacle Sync are honestly my favorite pieces of equipment :)
  • I would recommend tentacle since it can also use it as a recorder.
  • Fortunately i have four tentacle syncs.

Cons

  • This is my first time my Tentacle sink ever died on me onset and I had it fully charged. It was only the last four shots of the day because it happened when I did a battery swap on my 833.
  • So, in 20 years... almost certainly your current Tentacles will be bricks. If they haven't worn out or broken by then, they will certainly be unsupported. And the 3rd party platforms will be museum pieces and long out of support. I'd per...
  • I don't like using Tentacle sync timecode boxes because they make you control your devices through an app. What if in the future they stop supporting the app, or pull an Adobe and make you start to pay for it, or paywall some features?

Timecode is extremely important. Just buy a tentacle sync set up. They’re reasonably priced and always work.

So, in 20 years... almost certainly your current Tentacles will be bricks. If they haven't worn out or broken by then, they will certainly be unsupported. And the 3rd party platforms will be museum pieces and long out of support. I'd personally be surprised if you'll get 10 years professional use out of them.

For the tentacle sync specifically, no probably not, because worst case, you can always jam them back into sync from another source without using the app. It may be that down the line, you need to pick up some other device to control it, or keep an old phone kicking around to run the app
