I run a 633 and F8n. I would say that other than the F-Control, there's no proprietary products to be concerned about, and the F8n is a very capable mixer.
I’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to location sound, and I’ve have some issues with my Zoom F8n pro. Particularly, I’m have trouble fighting clipping when using multiple mics.

That’s not a “thing” on the F8nPro. There is no adjustable gain stage, since it’s a true float recorder.
Even if you get it “working” before your shoot, I would NOT trust it. Rent another machine, and send yours back to Zoom to be looked at.
I can’t tell whether the issue is coming from the cable, the Comtek transmitter connection, or the output on my Zoom F8n Pro. If I move the cable just a little, I can hear the noise on the receivers.

Same Zoom. Sometimes those lines are there and sometimes they aren’t. My hearing isn’t good enough anymore to tell on set anymore, so I can’t figure out either what causes it. And it’s not always the same frequency when I compare different filming days.
I’m seeing a consistent horizontal noise line in iZotope RX around 20kHz (and another weaker one around 21kHz) on a lot of recent recordings. It isn't really audible, but it shows up visually on the spectrogram and seems to be getting slightly louder over time.
I own a zoom f8n pro and I truly recommend getting a V-mount battery as a power solution.
