AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The SVS SB-1000 Pro is widely recognized as a compact, musical subwoofer that excels in smaller spaces and music-centric setups. While it is praised for its precision, small footprint, and convenient app control, users frequently debate its effectiveness for dedicated home theater use, where many prefer the higher output and deeper 'rumble' of ported alternatives.

Pros

  • Excellent precision and 'tightness' for music listening
  • Compact footprint makes it ideal for small rooms or discreet placement
  • Convenient app-based control for easy tuning and DSP adjustments
  • Strong performance at 20Hz and above relative to its size
  • Effective in dual-subwoofer configurations to improve room consistency

Cons

  • Lacks the 'boomy' depth and raw output of ported subwoofers (like the PB series) for movies
  • Can feel underpowered or 'flat' in larger open-concept rooms
  • Maximum output at the lowest frequencies (near 20Hz) may not meet expectations at high volumes

Caveats

  • Calibration settings, such as lowering gain to maintain SNR, can significantly impact the perceived 'punchiness' of the unit
  • Users often find themselves choosing between the precision of this sealed (SB) model and the output of ported (PB) models depending on their movie-to-music ratio

Best for

  • Music-focused audio systems
  • Small to medium-sized living spaces
  • Users who value app-based integration and ease of setup
  • Dual-subwoofer setups to smooth out room response

Avoid if

  • You have a large room that requires significant air movement for home theater impact
  • You prioritize maximum low-end 'chest-kick' for action movies over musical precision

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 392 days, which may not reflect the most recent market competitors for this hardware.

As much as I love the T5/x and I had sold off my SVS SB-1000 Pro because I thought the REL was better, it is not the best choice given your stated requirements.

I just started building my home theater last year and thought SB-1000 would be enough, but I’m feeling the bass a little lacking now.

Next, I started testing things out and I would say the subwoofer is no longer "punchy"; in fact, it might even be flat. This seems to be because the volume I set on the sub for calibration was -16 dB (to maintain good SNR).

Also consider PB vs SB but even the SB should be a big upgrade over your current setup.

Given your budget, I would recommend getting two SVS SB-1000 Pros if you can: ... And as I mentioned before, with dual subwoofers, they can offer more output and more consistency across all seats when you position them properly in the room.

That is maximum output, so maybe at really low volumes it can use DSP to smooth the response out more to be flatter closer to 20 Hz. But given the measurements, it seems ambitious of them to claim a -3 dB point of 20 Hz quasi anechoic.

Parent context: Would you get the sub first or the center first? Reply: I have the SVS SB 1000 pro you mentioned and like it a lot. I had a smaller space to work with so that’s why I went with that. If I had more room I probably would’ve gone with their ported option. But it works for me and it’s especially good with music.

I have a SB-1000 Pro and it’s pretty good but ported would be even better.
