Pros

  • if your looking for lots of glades you may want to consider a central BC resort like Sun Peaks, Silver Star, Red Mountain or Big White as these resorts have more acreage in the sub alpine.
  • My preference though is to ski either Mission Ridge or make the trip up to Sun Peaks.
  • Sun Peaks has excellent progression - I spent a lot of time riding those trails with my kids! Easy Wind was our favorite when they were super new, morning dew -> level up is also a good beginner option.
  • Sun Peaks has some pretty fun runs. I did 16 days in a row at Sun Peaks one time and had one of the best powder days ever. I was lapping west bowl (the new chair) and every run, the snow would cover my old tracks, it was such a crazy day...
  • Sun peaks, silver star and Big White arent as glitzy but plenty of hill at all 3..

Cons

  • I would skip sun peaks and big white and go to silver star in Vernon for progression.
  • Sun Peaks seemed really hard when I was there compared to other mountains but I think they’ve added more green trails (this was many years ago).
  • Parent context: February last winter. Got some mornings with fresh snow but it would get to 10 degrees or something like that by noon. By the time I got to Revelstoke, anything on the lower mountain was in _very_ marginal conditions lol....
  • Yeah Sun peaks is a little lacking on the expert terrain but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. That new back bowl lift is super fun and so is the top of burfield/crystal chairs. Would love to have it as home resort. The place is just so big.

We had very slushy and thin coverage unfortunately so some stuff lower mountain was a bit sketchy lol.
