I’m definitely not buying day passes in vail. But for 5 days, it’s $500+, ski school is $500/day, Airbnb is $10,000 for a week in a decent location, food is insane and shit on the mountain, and babysitting is $50/hour for two kids.
I LOVE skiing at vail - skied their most of my life - but I can’t get down with the cost these days.
Despite how rich and outrageous the prices are, this is entirely in Vail. They bill themselves as a luxury resort but you can’t nickel and dime the back end and still expect the same results

And Vail... heh, those fuckheads have completely given up on anyone interested in freestyle riding, they have single-handedly destroyed so many resorts nationally and given a collective middle finger to anyone who even THINKS of trying to learn and progress in freestyle riding.
The back bowls were insanely good (Dragon’s teeth / Chopstix - just wow) and even the groomers were super fun to glide on. ... Did Vail ruin skiing or our experience? No. Did they make it so unfordable that I had to plan ahead six months? Yes.
I’ve been assured by very smart people here that Vail is flat, expensive, crowded and well, owned by Vail. Which makes it literally the worst place on the literal planet in the literal universe.
My family and I just skied four days at Vail. Almost no lift lines. Incredible conditions. Excellent staff and amenities. So thankful.
Yes, the terrain is stellar, and yes, the bowls are legendary; I used to love them in the 90s before you broke bad.
