MDR 7506 have plenty of very loyal fans ( I tried them and thought they were nice and neutral, if not a bit boring sounding)
That's pretty good bass down to 40 Hz for a dynamic driver over ear headphone at that price I think, at least one that isn't ChiFi. The overall compliance to target looks quite good. I usually recommend these to N00bs under a budget even though I haven't heard them and I just feel more confident about doing that now.
It has an upper midrange clarity that makes details very up front. It can be a bit much for modern metal, but I think that says more about modern metal production than these headphones, TBH. ... there's something a little light and nimble about how the 7506 feels. I treat all my headphones with love and care, but it feels like a headphone that would hold up pretty well if someone didn't.
Anyhow, I love the 7506 ... My first production headphone and still one of the favorites despite numerous purchases.

They're super easy to drive, so I doubt an amp will make much difference. They're super detailed, and even if they don't have a huge quantity of bass, the quality is very good.
At least it's not the HD 280s, which stick out funny from the head :D
They made me realize how bad Bluetooth headphones actually are. Like no progress was made at all.
P.S. I know about MDR-7506 but I didn't listen them (maybe I should) because I automatically thought that M1 is successor and therefore should be better. Plus detached cable is a big pros.
