Pros
- I bougth a first hand (after check noise i returned it) Seagate ironwolf (normal) from Amazon to test the sound, and It was silent, i would say more than wd red plus. Later i read since 2024 they manufacture it more silent than before.
- The best strategy is to get seagate ironwolfs. Difference between high end and enterprise hard drive is the warranty.
- NAS drives (Seagate Ironwolf (+Ironwolf Pro), WD Red (+Red Pro, Red Plus)). these are the good ones for most homelab users. Built solidly, designed for good performance under fairly heavy workloads.
- IronWolf is better than Barracuda.
- These drives are designed for NAS use, providing reliability and efficiency.
Cons
- it has 5*4TB (Seagate Ironwolf)
- non-pro Ironwolfs (12TB) have noticeably louder seeks than WD Red Plus helium.
- WD Red, WD Red Pro, WD UltraStar, Seagate IronWolf, Seagate IronWolf Pro, Seagate Exos, Toshiba N300, Toshiba N300 Pro, Toshiba MG. Most mechanical NAS drives fall under these lines.
- also i know there are NAS and Ironwolf ones from Seagate if i'm not mistaken but i have no clue which one would be best fit for my needs.
